The ET hypothesis revisitedWe need to keep an open mind as to whether we are the highest form of intelligence on our own planet. 4/1/2000
Reality Check showcases UFO lawyer Peter Gersten's rare perspective, one that combines legal expertise and cosmic awareness.
Several thousand official government documents have been released under the Freedom of Information Act during the past 25 years. Though the documents confirm the reality of the
UFO phenomenon (strangely shaped aerial objects with unusual performance characteristics), none indicate the origin or identity of these enigmatic craft.
Our species commonly believes that the basis of the UFO phenomenon is extraterrestrial. This idea is supported by a majority of
UFO researchers and validated by movies, television programs, and myriad science fiction books. Interestingly, there is no credible or reliable evidence to support this belief, despite more than 50 years of investigation.
An article on the Internet by Hank Worbetz -- "Why Did the Air Force Promote the Extraterrestrial UFO Viewpoint?" -- proposes an alternative theory. Worbetz suggests that the "extraterrestrial hypothesis" is merely a smokescreen to divert attention from the true nature of this intelligence and, more importantly, its existence with us on Planet Earth.
Exploring governments' relationship to UFOs, Worbetz cites the opinions of Dr. Pierre Guerin, French astronomer associated with the French government-sponsored UFO study group GEPAN (Le Groupe d'Etude des Phénomènes Aérospatiaux Non Identifiés). Worbetz writes, "Dr. Guerin feels there is an intelligence behind the UFO phenomenon and it is not human. Governments of Earth understand that this intelligence coexists on the planet with humanity. There is a very high possibility that this intelligence is responsible for the creation of humanity."
Can you imagine a non-human, vastly superior intelligence living among us on Earth? Worbetz, himself, answers: "The atomic age, the appearance of flying saucers in large numbers, and the birth of the National Security Council are not random events. All occurred within a very short period of time. The relationship of cause and effect is clearly demonstrated by the passing of the National Security Act three months after the thunderous blow to American reality by the
UFO crash in Roswell, N.M. in July 1947. Until the atomic age, the intelligence behind the UFO has historically shied away and distanced itself from human perception."
Jacques Vallee, a scientist and one of the foremost ufologists, implies that this intelligence has been with us for as long as our species has been on this planet. He writes, "The visitors seem willing to conform to whatever mythology or beliefs they find. They become what we want them to be and tell us what we want to hear. Modern mythology has shifted from the magical to the scientific, and it's only logical that the visitors would pose as scientifically advanced beings from space."
And what if this non-human, vastly superior intelligence could appear before us in many disguises?
Which do you think would concern the governments of the world more: intelligence coming from "outer space" or a superior, non-human intelligence mingling with humanity? Whereas the former would most likely unite our species, the latter could create continual anxiety, confusion, and chaos.
A spacecraft crashing in
Roswell, New Mexico, nearly 53 years ago and artificial structures on a planet millions of miles away are sufficiently distanced in time and space. Consequently, these occurrences don't affect our psyches directly. But unknown, non-human neighbors existing in our oceans or underneath our feet is mind-blowing and status-quo altering.
I have always been puzzled why our government would intentionally hide the fact that we are being "invaded" by extraterrestrials. It seems like there's no better way to maintain control, increase military funding, and declare martial law -- especially to safeguard the general welfare of humanity -- than to make extraterrestrial invasion known. The uncertainty of this "contact" would involve governments even if the contact were initially benevolent, but especially if malevolent. Recognizing the "ET" threat is the perfect way to create a one-world government, which many predict as inevitable.
Also puzzling is why ET intelligence would continue to avoid openly announcing its presence, whether hostile or friendly. It's strange that a malevolent alien race, one that has the advanced technologically required to travel vast distances, would take its time in wiping out our species. Even a long-term program of colonization, or a slow programming of our consciousness to accept contact, wouldn't need to create the secrecy, paranoia, and ridicule associated with the phenomenon.
The UFO phenomenon is still being covered-up by our government, ridiculed by our media, ignored by our scientists, and generally denied by mainstream society. Regardless of what happens, though, aren't we still talking about intelligence that is, essentially, presently with us on this planet?
The main body of evidence suggesting that this intelligence is
extraterrestrial comes from the intelligence itself, through personal contact experiences (PCEs) and channeled messages. Other evidence consists of non-authenticated government documents such as the MJ-12 papers. Further evidence comes from uncorroborated "whistle blowers," persons who allegedly come from the military and intelligence communities, like Michael Wolf and "new age" UFO researchers Drs. Greer and Boylan.
Further, there is evidence in almost all cultural myths, legends, and religious historical accounts of our species' continuous contact with another form of intelligence. I would suggest that, at each of humankind's evolutionary stages, this intelligence has assumed forms consistent with our belief systems. Its continuous interaction is strong evidence for its existence with us, rather than its periodic visitation from "out there."
In his article, Worbetz further contends that "the true reasons why the phenomenon's reality is continually denied by science, the military, government, and religious institutions worldwide can now be viewed in a new light. It appears that both the Earth's governments and the intelligence responsible for the UFO phenomenon find exposure of the phenomenon's reality to humanity's self-concept mutually threatening."
Though either the "ET hypothesis" or the "coexistence concept" could support the above proposition, the coexistence concept does make sense. Why would any advanced intelligence from "out there" want to establish contact with a species that is still engaging in tribal warfare, destroying its biosphere, and lacking in self-determination?
A "prime directive" is appropriate. If the intelligence is native to Earth and our actions threaten its exposure or existence, the reluctance to reveal its identity and origin is understandable. This also accounts for why it is the principal purveyor of the disinformation and the propaganda that it is extraterrestrial.
Maybe we need to keep an open mind as to whether we are the highest form of intelligence on our own planet. The evidence seems to indicate that we are not.
